The Rotunda Is Back

The library's premier space for events and quiet study on the library's 4th floor is open again.

The rotunda is back! Sociology and Anthropology faculty who were temporarily using the library's 4th floor rotunda reading room as office space have returned to Cina Hall, which has been renovated.

This means that as of Thursday, September 14, library users will once again be able to enjoy the rotunda's dual function as an event space and quiet study area in the library.

The rotunda’s fall event schedule is already filling up. The Alworth Institute for International Studies will be sponsoring events in the rotunda, and the library will host other noteworthy events:

  • On September 22, in cooperation with faculty and staff councils, the library will celebrate UMD authors. This event will recognize faculty and staff who have written and published a book.
  • Many of the events for the Shakespeare First Folio celebration will take place in the library rotunda. Lectures, a showing and discussion of foreign-film adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays, and even an event for families will be some of the highlights.
