chairs and tables for studying in the rotunda

The library designates its 4th floor as a talk zone.

Whether you are a student, faculty, staff or visitor, the Kathryn A. Martin Library is full of space and seating to accommodate all manner (and volume) of study, and now patrons can bring their conversations and group work to the 4th floor!

Based on survey feedback and a special project by Anthropology student Lexi Olson, the library revisited the use of its available spaces. Previously patrons would find quiet study space on the third and fourth floors, as well as in the Library’s Annex. The first and second floors were reserved for group conversation and cooperative work. Feedback indicated a strong desire for additional space for cooperative work and group conversation. Because of this, the Library has designated the 4th floor as a talk zone; a space appropriate for conversation and group work.

This change begins on August 19 and will go through Spring Semester 2020. Zone signage throughout the library has also been updated to reflect the changes. The library will be collecting feedback for the duration of this change. Patrons can submit feedback at any time by going to our website and clicking on “Feedback” at the bottom of the page under Library Quick Links.
