UMD's Center for Economic Development, (CED) located in the Duluth Technology Village at 11 East Superior Street, Suite 210, houses a special collection of the Kathryn A. Martin Library geared to the needs of small business entrepreneurs. Materials are intended to help small business owners stay current on topics such as marketing, hiring and managing employees, and business development. Guides on starting many types of businesses can be of help to new entrepreneurs. Also included are directories and other reference books.

Active clients of the UMD CED may apply for a free courtesy library card in person. A person is considered an active client if they have met with a CED counselor in the last 90 days. The courtesy card can be used on the UMD campus as well as at the Center. There is no waiting period to receive a library card and check out books. For checkout periods and fines see the Kathryn A. Martin Library's circulation policies.
