Request an Item (Get It) - Undergraduate Students
You are here
UMD students can request materials from Martin Library or other participating University of Minnesota libraries with the click of a mouse. Get It! provides system-wide paging and lending of library materials from all of the larger Twin Cities University Libraries as well as UMD, UM Crookston, and UM Morris.
You can select the items you want from the online catalog and manage renewals all from within “My Account.”
Requests from U of M Campuses
When you look up a title in the MNCAT Discovery library catalog and click on the Get It! request button, the system places a request on an available copy of the title. If the title is listed in the catalog but not currently available at any University of Minnesota library, the system recalls a copy from a current borrower. Recalled items not returned by the recall due date (within one week) will be fined at the rate of $1 per day.
The item you requested will be retrieved and held for you at your selected pickup location. As soon as your requested item is available for pickup, you will receive an email notification.
Items eligible for Get It! include titles that regularly circulate for at least one week, such as books, bound periodicals, and music scores.
Staff at the Circulation desk are available to help you search for materials. If we don't find what you need right away, place a Get It request and we will continue searching for the item.
When to Use Interlibrary Loan
You will need to use interlibrary loan (ILL) to request:
• Articles not available at the UMD Kathryn A. Martin Library
• Materials that aren't owned by any University of Minnesota library
• Reference or other non-circulating items
