Food and Drink Policy
Drinks in covered containers are allowed in the library. Light snacks and small items intended for individual consumption that are not damaging to the furnishings and collections or distracting to others are also allowed in the library. No food or drink of any kind is permitted in the Archives & Special Collections Reading Room and KAML 116. No food is permitted in KAML 410; covered drink containers are allowed in KAML 410
Users are asked to:
- Plan ahead and prepare. Plan ahead and prepare. Plan to eat your meals before you come to the library. Only bring in drinks in covered containers and be careful to avoid spills. Limit your consumption of food to light snacks such as items dispensed from a vending machine. Do not bring in meals or messy aromatic foods. Foods such as pizza, burgers, fries, salads, and soup should be consumed outside of the library.
- Dispose of waste properly. Place recyclables in recycling bins and non-recyclable trash in garbage cans. If you need to dispose of beverages, pour liquids in a bathroom sink and then dispose or recycle the container. Report accidental spills to library staff as soon as possible.
- Be considerate of other users. Your respectful use of the library will be appreciated by other library users and the next generation of users.
Users who disregard this policy will be asked to put the food and drink away, dispose of it or remove it from the library.
The Library Director reserves the right to suspend this policy for special events.
This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure that the library’s collections, furnishings and equipment are not being adversely affected by food and drink.
