Remote Access to UMD Licensed Electronic Resources

Kathryn A. Martin Library Policy

Remote and on-site access and use of the UMD catalog as well as numerous free Internet resources linked through it are available to all users. Remote and on-site access and use of the electronic resources purchased by the Kathryn A. Martin Library are governed by license agreements negotiated between the library and publishers or third parties. In general, these legally binding contracts allow only UMD students, staff, faculty, and other authorized users to access these resources remotely.

Access to these resources from outside the Kathryn A. Martin Library (e.g., from home or workplace) is limited to staff and faculty with active appointments and students currently enrolled in credit-earning courses at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Faculty emeriti are granted remote access to electronic resources as authorized users.

Sponsored internet accounts and Email for Life accounts are not eligible for remote access to the library's electronic resources due to vendor licensing restrictions. This is a non-negotiable part of the contracts we sign, and there are no fee-for-access options for persons not affiliated with the University.

The general public may access the library's electronic resources from public computer stations (currently unavailable) in the Kathryn A. Martin Library and other locations on the UMD campus.
