What Are Library Course Materials?

Library Course Materials (also known as course reserves) is a library service to provide students free access to materials for their courses.  Physical books, ebooks, articles, book chapters, videos and more can all be in Library Course Materials, as directed by the instructor.

Access Library Course Materials by logging into Canvas, selecting your course, and clicking Library Course Materials on the left-hand course navigation menu.

If your course does not have a Canvas site, you can also find Library Course Materials on your Course Works shelf.

Course Works and Library Course Materials

The library partners with the bookstore to provide required course materials when possible.

Items owned by the library are found on the course’s Library Course Materials page for students to use free of charge. This page will appear on your Course Works shelf for all courses with active library items. Items may be digital or physical.

Library materials and open education resources will always be freely available to students, even if you opt out of Course Works entirely.

Helpful Tips For Items on Reserve

  • On your Library Course Materials page, click the maroon availability on an item to see whether it is available or checked out by someone.
  • To ensure every student has the opportunity to use our material, we restrict checkouts to one reserve item at a time and limit loan periods to three hours or one day.
