The Kathryn Martin Library is an Academic Library, which is defined by the American Library Association as a library “associated with a degree-granting institution of higher education,” its main purpose is research and scholarly activity.
But, like many academic libraries, the Kathryn Martin Library is open to the wider community. On average the library provides services to over 400 community members annually from the Duluth area. Community members are those individuals who may be alumni or have no employment or educational affiliation with the university.
Community users visit the library for several reasons including public access computers, which allow users to access our databases, use the internet, and gain access to printing. Most often, however, community users check out items from our children’s and bestsellers collections, browse current newspapers, and enjoy the quiet spaces that the library offers.
Anyone interested in becoming a Community User at the library can call (218)726-6120, stop by our Library Services Desk, or visit our website for more information.
