How do I manage my course reserves list on the Library Course Page in Canvas?
Instructors now have the ability to create their own course reserves list of library-owned materials, edit their existing lists, or upload their personal content. If you prefer for library staff to manage your course reserves list the process for requesting materials be placed on course reserves has not changed.
+
How can I place items on reserve?
Submit your requests 1 week prior to making assignments related to the reserve material.
How to submit your reserve request:
- Electronic Materials Course Reserve Processing Form
- Physical Course Reserves Processing Form
- Add citations to Library Course Page and send the reading list to the Library
We process requests as quickly as possible. You will receive an email notification when your items are on reserve.
+
What can I put on reserve?
Allowed items: Books, journals, CDs, videos, DVDs, book chapters, journal articles, ebooks, and streaming resources owned either by the Kathryn A. Martin Library or by you. (See personal copy information)
The following types of items cannot be placed on reserve:
- Recordings from a subscription service (HBO, Showtime, etc.)
- Rented videos or DVDs
- Materials received through Interlibrary Loan or Get It
- Materials owned by another library
- Photocopies
+
How many physical copies are needed?
Generally 1 copy per 15 to 20 students is sufficient. This will vary with the amount of time the students have to complete the assigned reading or viewing.
+
How soon will my request be processed?
Requests are processed in the order they are received. Digital materials are often available the day we receive them. Please be aware that personal copies require anywhere from 1 to 4 days to process before they become available for student checkout. Reserve processing at the beginning of semester may take longer due to the amount of material to be processed. Please request rush service if the materials are needed immediately, and we will try to accommodate your need.
+
How can I view a list of materials I have on reserve for my courses?
Instructors and students can view reserve lists via the Library Course Page link on the course's Canvas site or via the Course Reserves option in the library catalog advanced search.
+
Where can students check out reserve materials?
Materials that have been placed on physical reserve can be checked out at the Circulation desk on the first floor of the Kathryn A. Martin Library. Course reserve items are loaned on a first-come, first-served basis. Only one reserve item may be checked out at a time.
Electronic reserve materials can be accessed via the Library Course Page link on the course's Canvas site.
