Request an Item (Get It) - Faculty & Staff

You are here

Get It from a U of M Library

UMD faculty and staff can request materials from the Kathryn A. Martin Library or other participating University of Minnesota libraries with the click of a mouse. Get It! provides system-wide paging and lending of library materials from all of the larger Twin Cities University Libraries as well as UMD, UM Crookston, and UM Morris.

Select items you want from the online catalog and manage your renewals all from within “My Account.”

When you log in and look up a title in the library catalog, you can click on the Get It! request button to place a request on an available copy of the title. If the title is listed in the catalog but not currently available at any University of Minnesota library, the system recalls a copy from a current borrower.

The item will be retrieved and either held for you at the selected pickup location or mailed to your on-campus mailbox. (Instructors may choose "Office Delivery" as the pickup location to elect campus mail service of a requested item.)

Items eligible for Get It! include titles that regularly circulate for at least one week, such as books, bound periodicals, and music scores.

Recalls

You may recall an item that is checked out to another user. Items with loan periods of one week or more are eligible for recall.

The current user will be notified to return the recalled item within a week. Recalled items not returned by the recall due date will be fined at the rate of $1 per day.

Search Requests

Staff at the Circulation desk are available to help you search for materials. If the item you need is not found immediately, you can initiate a more comprehensive search by placing a "Get It!" request through the library catalog.

When to Use Interlibrary Loan

You will need to use interlibrary loan (ILL) to request:

• Articles from sources not available at the UMD Kathryn A. Martin Library
• Materials that aren't owned by any University of Minnesota library
• Materials that are restricted to use within a University of Minnesota library
