Award-winning graphic novelist and comic book author Gene Luen Yang will visit UMD on January 22, 2018, as part of the Reading Without Walls program. Gene will speak at 6 p.m. in Kirby Ballroom about the importance of narratives that convey a multitude of cultural experiences. Gene’s books will be available for purchase and signing by the author immediately following his presentation.
Gene Luen Yang is the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, a MacArthur Fellow, and the national spokesperson for the Reading Without Walls program. His published work includes American Born Chinese, Boxers & Saints, and The Shadow Hero. He has also written Avatar: The Last Airbender and Superman comics.
This free event is part of the Reading Without Walls program, which is designed to create a community of readers at UMD and in Duluth and encourage participants to encounter, discuss, and share diverse ideas, characters, genres, and perspectives through reading.
Gene’s visit is made possible by the Duluth Public Library, UMD’s Kathryn A.
